Spring and Other Things.

Spring has sprung! It's been just beautiful here, and we are trying to take advantage of our perfect weather days. We have been going to the park and working in our yard. Out goal is Yard of the Month, but my mother will kill me if I beat her to the punch! I did tell her that she could have some credit since she has helped so much :)

Eliza is very fascinated by the blooms on the flowers and trees, and she always comments as we are riding in the car. The other day, she looked at a blooming pear tree and asked why the tree had snow on it. It was quite funny!

Eliza is also very interested in her music these days. She requests her music in the car every time, and one of her favorites is "Hot Cross Buns." I had never heard the song before, but it's definitely a household favorite now. Both Andrew and I had to do some research on hot cross buns...

Last weekend some friends and I took a girls' trip to Savannah, and the dads were in charge of the kiddos. I left very few notes as I figured Eliza would set Andrew straight on anything he missed. Everything was going well at home, despite a little exhaustion from Andrew. He called early Sunday morning - early being 8 am. I ran to get my phone and hid in the bathroom, as to not wake the other mommies, who were enjoying those peaceful hours of sleep! Since I was whispering, he asked me if I was asleep. I (of course) asked him why he was calling so early, and he told me that he had been up since 6:30 with Eliza. Note: I didn't feel sorry for him. He then asked what the green capped milk was in the fridge. I told him that it was the buttermilk from the banana cake that we had weeks ago. (I guess he just noticed it).

I am sure you are wondering where this story is going....

The main reason he was calling was to have me be the decider of a debate. Andrew didn't know what the milk was for, but Eliza was insistent that the buttermilk was for hot cross buns! Go figure! I guess buttermilk can be used for making hot cross buns!

(Sorry for the rambling. That was a "you had to be there" story)

Happy Birthday Anne!

Last Saturday we celebrated Anne's 3rd birthday with an awesome princess jump castle! The kids had a great time, and we were lucky to have such great weather in January. Here are a few pictures from our fun afternoon :)

Big Girl Bed

Back in January, Eliza made the big move from her crib into her new bed. We converted her nursery into a playroom, and she sleeps in what used to be our guest room. Yes, she alone takes up two entire rooms in our house. Eliza is living it up with a queen size bed and pillow top mattress. It's quite luxurious for a two year old!

She has only fallen out of her bed twice, and hopefully she learned her lesson the second time after a trip to the doctor. She had a pretty nasty cut right beside her eye, and being the paranoid mother, I took her straight to the doctor's office.

She is very good about staying in her bed, and she still has her pre-nap reading/singing/playing sessions. Here she is after falling asleep...

How Clever

I have a few posts to catch up on, but I wanted to share this before I forgot.

We are trying to get Eliza to stop sucking her fingers. It's a slow process, but we figured we would give it a shot. Tonight while reading stories, Andrew told Eliza to take her fingers out of her mouth. She took her regular sucking fingers out of her mouth, but proceeded to put another finger in her mouth instead. Andrew said again (laughing) "don't suck those fingers", and Eliza said "I'm not sucking those fingers....just this one finger."

How clever.

Winter Wonderland!

It is so very rare to have snow in Charleston, but we were blessed with two snow days in 2010. I know for some of you, snow is a terrible inconvenience, but for us, it's a great joy. Don't get me wrong, it is a tad inconvenient when every bridge in the city is shut down, but it's fun nonetheless.

We also had a wintry mix a few days ago that shut down every bridge in Charleston and left us stranded at our house. Despite a little cabin fever, it was entertaining!

Banana Cake

There is a special tradition at the Dennis family holiday. Banana Cake. Everyone looks forward to Taffy Orvin's fantastic banana cake. We drool over this cake, and believe me, there is not one bit left over. It is most certainly the hit of the holiday!
